Dear Friends,

I am thrilled to announce the release of my new book, "Holiness and Society: A Socio-Political Exploration of the Mosaic Tradition," published by Routledge. This work delves into Moses's political philosophy, a project I have dedicated many years to researching and writing. This book is dedicated to the beloved memory of those who were massacred on October the Seventh.

The book is available for pre-sale with a significant discount for a limited time until the 25th of this month. Don’t miss this opportunity to be among the first to explore its insights. You can find the pre-sale link here: Holiness and Society - Pre-Sale

About the Book:

"Holiness and Society" investigates the nuanced political philosophy embedded within the Biblical narrative, offering enduring insights that complement and challenge the classical traditions of Ancient Greek philosophy. This book reveals often-overlooked socio-political ideologies, presenting a fresh perspective on contemporary political thought.

Through a sociological lens, I interpret the Bible as a reflection of diverse perspectives and ideologies, highlighting the complex interplay between rulers and subjects and the balance of justice and power within societies. A central theme is the concept of holiness as a unique political category, impacting institutions, ethics, justice, and the use of force. This approach merges sociology with the concept of holiness, challenging traditional religious scholarship.

"Holiness and Society" expands the boundaries of political philosophy, religious studies, and sociology, offering new insights and bridging the gap between antiquity and modernity.

Endorsements:

Yoram Hazony, President of the Herzl Institute and author of “The Philosophy of Hebrew Scripture” "Is there a Jewish concept of holiness distinct from Greek and Christian civilization? In this book, Ronen Shoval examines key texts on holiness in Hebrew Scripture, proposing that the biblical ideal of a 'holy nation' provides a 'supreme norm' shaping biblical law and the nation of Israel. This daring work challenges accepted distinctions and uncovers a unique biblical concept of holiness belonging to an entire nation living with God among them."
Shmuel Trigano, Professor Emeritus, Chair Of Sociology of Knowledge, Religion, and Politics at Paris Nanterre University, and author of "Philosophy of the Law: The Political in the Torah" "Dr. Ronen Shoval renews the classical approach to Biblical politics from a unique perspective, collective holiness as understood through the sociological method. This research opens new avenues for young researchers in an era questioning the essence of politics beyond institutions."
Leon R. Kass, Dean of the Faculty, Shalem College, Jerusalem, and author of "Founding God’s Nation: Reading Exodus" " Combining insights from political philosophy and the sociology of religion with his brilliant interpretations of the text, Ronen Shoval presents a compelling account of the political-theological teachings of the Hebrew Bible. Centered on communal holiness, this book is a major contribution to Jewish thought and political theory, reflecting on the limitations of our own liberal political ideas."
